Need an indicator stork for an S1, does anyone know what these are originally from?
I was thinking Triumph Herald but unsure; I did look at the gglotus site below but can't see them listed there either
http://gglotus.org/ggpart/elanxref.htm
any suggestions gratefully received.

Hi Gordon
The Spitfire was in production a long time, maybe they changed , if you want a part number try Lucas model 72SA part number34406D later S2's were 125SA 34828B , this is the Ross Robinshaw bool "The Original Lotus Elan"

The indicator stalks were Triumph parts. Rimmer Brothers sell Triumph Herald and Spitfire parts including the indicator stalks, look up their web site www.rimmerbros.co.uk

According to the RD list I have, the indicator and headlamp stalks were common throughout the whole series.
http://www.rdent.com/manuals/index.html
So as most of us suspect they are from Triumph Herald/Spitfire, the best source would probably be Rimmer Bros.

I hope this helps.

I don't know if Ray at RD has been able to annotate the original Lotus Service Parts List with better data. Unfortunately the official Lotus lists are full of parts stated to be common across the range when in fact there have been many changes. For example, there are dozens of changes in the gearbox which are undocumemented in the Service Parts Lists.

Good point Russ.
The illustrations on the Rimmer website look good enough to compare with the real thing.
The Matty catalogue says that the indicator switch is common to all variants, but the headlamp switch is common from 1964 onwards.

The S1, S2 and Coupe parts manual dated 1966 show the part as
EL10 (L) CC933610A Switch (directional indicator and headlamp flasher) assembly used on S1, S2, and Coupe.
A Spitfire directional switch will work in any event.

If it is a Spitfire part, it was common to most Truimphs through at least 1970. At some point after that, (MK IV on the Spitfire), the part changed.
The Spitfire part was definitely used on S1 and S2 Europas, so it's likely the Elan shared it.
This particular part is widely reputed to be unobtainium. And it is very poorly designed (need this be mentioned given the supplier? ), so quite subject to failure. Listings in Victoria British and Moss Motors are for the later part (and no compatibility is claimed.) I don't understand why it hasn't been picked up, perhaps someone knows of a quality replacement for it? I'd be in the market as the plastic head on mine has crumbled to dust.

Triumph 2000? btw, there is a world of difference between a stork and a stalk.

I bought new indicator and headlamp stalks from Rimmer brothers last year. One was new old stock the other was brand new. They are exactly the same as the originals which were standard Triumph Herald items. Rimmer Brothers sell quite a few items that were used on the Lotus Elans and I have sometimes bought items from them that the usual Elan suppliers say are unobtainable. The photograph shows the new stalks and cover.
