Hi,

I've just fitted an Omex Clubman rev limiter on my Elan +2 (73), it works great but the rev counter becomes "crazy" when the rev limiter is connected....I get 8000rpm at the counter.....and even more if it was possible ;-).
When disconnected the rev counter works normaly.

any idea about the probleme ?
should I purchase another model of rev count ?

Thanks in advance
Best regards

There is an article at the top of the Elannet home page "Bouncing Tach" which details the problem.

You can get the rev counter rebuilt to cure the problem. Funnily enough my instruments have just come back this morning from a refurb at http://www.speedycables.com/. They look as new again and they have done the modiification to the rev counter. I think the cost for the rev counter was about ?60.

I use the Omex speed system (rev limiter and shift light) which works great with the rev counter as tweaked by Speedy Cables.

I guess it is time to send off your old tacho for a rebuild :?

How have you connected the rev limiter? I am not familiar with the OMEX brand but rev limiters normally have 3 wires - earth, a connection to the low voltage distributor side (negative) of the coil and a power supply.

If you connect the power supply to the positive side of the coil you will get tach problems with the Elan tach which senses pulse in the suplly current to the coil- find an alternate 12 v supply source that does not influence the tach pulses and the problems should go away.

My rev limiter works fine with the standard Elan tach

Thanls a lot !

The power supply is connected to the positive side of the coil (as described in the notice...).... I'll find an other 12 v supply source...

I'll keep you in touch

As usual, I?m back on the forum when I?ve a technical problem?

I?ve bought an ? electronic modified ? rev counter at speedograph richfield to fit with the TTR electronic ignition system (really good !!) but I don?t know how connect the wires.
On the new rev counter there a 3 connections:
- negative side of the coil
- ignition switch
- earth

the former smith mechanic rev counter has much more connections according to the work shop manual: negative side of the coil, ignition switch, a green one from the alternator and 2 hearth (spot indicator light and instrument light).

So I have 3 questions to the specialists....
My first point is: how distinguish the wire from the negative side of the coil and the wire from the ignition switch, the both are white
My second point is: Do I connect the rev directly to the hearth,
My third point is: where connect the green wire?

Thanks a lot in advance
