My original idea was to have a bit of extra light while driving on deserted roads at night in rural France. Therefore I don't care what the law says on this subject. I have no intention of driving the car in falling snow and I would rather have my toenails pulled out with a pair of pliers than wear a baseball cap, even the right way round.
I wish certain people would just use this forum for an exchange of information instead of trying to gain points.

Chris, sorry if my cheek full of tongue offended your sensibilities. I was exchanging information regarding legality. A couple of further thoughts: the Elise driving lights only come on with main beam to comply with the law and are aimed much higher than traditional fogs which should spread light low and near. Secondly, technically speaking, 26R light are illegal for road use. The flip up lights on Elans, and others, were to preserve a low frontal area yet lift high enough to comply with the law.

No problem Jim. My lights do seem to be the same and driving lights so I am going to have a go at getting them going and see what they are like. The other thought is the proposed "daylight driving light law". If this should actually be introduced (heaven forbid) it may be possible to use the driving lights instead of popped up headlights during the day as they wouldn't cause glare in daylight.

This thread is quite old now, but I wonder if anyone has a part reference or recommended supplier for new fog/driving lights for a 1971 Plus 2s?

Thanks guys. I’ve got electric pop up motors so no droopy issues.

Just curious (apologies if it’s been covered), to know what the correct lamp setup is? One spot and one fog? Two fogs (my current setup).

Some suppliers of the LR8 refer to the light as a driving light, so this could be a handy thing to be more visible when out and about among the seas of losers SUVs?

It's one fog, one driving lamp.

Most odd.

The Lucas square 8 lamps are not square they are oblong
Some have chrome cases at the back and some are plastic.

Does anyone have a source to buy the Plus2 flasher/dimmer switch that mounts on the steering column? Maybe a Triumph part? I've looked at the usual suppliers and can't seem to find the appropriate item.

Thanks,

Ted

The Dip / Main / Flasher switch is available from Canley in the UK

https://www.canleyclassics.com/demoapp/?ptno=147278

Little bit expensive at £85 though. It's off a Triumph Spitfire MK3.

Thanks, JonB for the info. My car (Elan 66 S2) is LHD with the turn signal switch on the right of the steering column, but Canley also has one for LHD, but is out of stock but available to order. I appreciate that you also gave me the part # as I was also able to find one at Rimmer,, both LHD and RHD so I should be able to find something to work. Thanks again.
