electrical help please

Morning all,
I'm trying to fit a new electric radio antenna in the boot. It works on my car from a seperate switch on the dash. I've mounted the new unit, connected everything up, including the earth wire and earthing the mounting bracket etc, but when I hit the switch I just get a series of clicks and no ariel movement.

Am I doing something completely stupid?! I'm totally baffled...

Try reversing the wires, it sounds as if the ariel is trying to retract. the clicking is the clutch. Alternatively the ariel might be stuck in. The ariel is pushed up and pulled down by a semi rigid nylon cable.
