Voltage stabiliser again

I have just found my voltage stabiliser with a view to replacing it with one of the new type. The question is what is the plastic item that is connected to the earth and battery terminals? It has the markings:- TYPE SV 15.0vDC WKG 1UF. Do I need to fit it to the new stabiliser?

It's a capacitor and if you have the solid state replacement there is no need for this now.....
