HELP NEEDED TONIGHT, wrong coil?????

FROM MY EARLIER POST:

Bosch blue coil bought now, the one in the "bad" section supposedly the best of those.... part number 0 221 102 082 (0 221 119 027), metal casing with blue stickers. Hopefully this is the one to make the Lumenition and tach perform as they should, and replace the lucas sports which looks like is bust. (engine cuts out completely occasionally when warm, usually in the middle of crossings..., will start again soon after).

5 MINUTES AGO IN THE GARAGE

So, this coil has NOT got a ballast resistor, the Lucas gold one (marked LP12) I just took off, HAS one by the clamp. WHAT should I do, can I fit the Bosch or not?

Thor,
From what I can see that is NOT balast resistor, its a radio suppressor,

AHA! It was connected with a single wire to the + terminal.. .....radio suppressor? should I just connect it back on, or leave the rusty thing?

Leave it off untill you have sorted your other probs, radio is optional!

As said above that's just a capacitor that reduces arcing across the points. The arcing makes radio waves, hence it's a radio suppressor. When I was tinckering with my +2 which has the Aldon ignitor in the distributor, I found it made no difference to the running of the engine.

So, after fiddling a bit, the smaller Bosch blue coil <is installed..First test drive shows the +2 to be smooth as silk, with improved tach action.
The proper test is tomorrow in some traffic, as it's going to be quite warm...

Thanks for good advice the last couple of days on my prblems Brian (and others) !

Looking forward to tomorrow.
