Now had the Aldon fitted for a coupe of weeks along with a flamethrower coil. I have deliberately left the car out of the garage (poor soul) to see how well it would start in the morning. We have had some heavy frosts lately (like having to scrape the windscreen). + some wet/damp mornings.
So far, no problems. The engine has fired first turn of the key every time.

Now that I've got the fuel pressure problems sorted out, it is even better. :D

So Aldon is kool! For such a simple wee thing that fits inside the distributor cap - fab.

I've had the car out for a few runs now (primarily to test for flooding). The car is very smooth in traffic with no hunting or hesitation. The whole thing feels very smooth. OK, part of that is due to the fuel pressure being sorted out (it was far too high) but I'm satisfied the other part is due to the Adlon unit. I have changed nothing else.

Hamish,
I have nothing but good to say about the ignitor but am now having doubts about the flamethrower coil. Can I ask, why did you go for it? From what I read on this forum it may not be the weapon of choice. On whose advice did you buy it?
Chris

Chris,

My old coil was just that - old. The Luminition was also old (both may havd been original).
When I decided to replace the Luminition it seemed a good idea to change what was probably, a 30+ year old coil.

I called both Aldon (ignitor) and Lumenition (magnetronic?) and they both abvised that their unit worked very well with 'their' coil. So, when I went for the Ignitor I got the flamethrower as well - it was less hassle than getting a coil separately. BTW - they both asked what the car was.
I don't know if it makes any difference but I have blue magnecor plug leads and their dissy cap fitted.

I had forgotten all about Keith's posts on high output coils, it's a wee bit late now to do much about it, apart from buying another coil. Whatever, I'll be watching the dissy cap very carefully to check for tracking both inside and at night for external tracking. So far, so good.

Regards,

Hamish.
