That must have been quite a sight at night.

If that had happened to me at the weekend when I had petrol dripping out of a flooding carb (the wee spring in the needle valve plunger had given up the ghost + there was a tiny piece of grit) then I recon I would have been in low orbit.

I thought I put the outcome of my talk with Keith on the site, not sure . As I recall the guy at Aldon when challenged about spanking dizzy caps, said that it was better with the Gold coil mentioned because of the Voltage. He said the Flame thrower was for more modern caps of higher strength. I actually found the instructions & sales bumf off the unit and in the print they actaully state about the limitation of the Old caps insulation.

Runs great for a while then developes a miss fire at about 2k RPM. New caps sorts it! Sold Flame thrower on Ebay. Got a good price on the new Lucas Gold coil from that Mini site.

I fitted the optical Lumenition unit a while ago, I have had no problems as yet. I steared away from the Aldon unit as I had heard that it would make the rev counter jump, I emailed Aldon and they said this was true but that it could be overcome. They did not say how though, so I went with the optical unit.

Has anyone else had a jumping rev counter? I believe there is a fair bit in this archive? My one is as steady as a rock

I just bought a dizzy cap from QED with the brass contacts (about ?17) as the old ally contact one seemed to be getting burned. QED say they have found a manufacturer for the brass contact caps so it may be worth spending a little more for these

So has everyone with an Ignitor fitted got jumping rev' counters

I've an Aldon fitted, but converted to RVC from RVI. However, over 3000rpm it still jumps all over the place. When I inject the tach with a pulse generator its fine. Any suggestions anyone?

I had my tacho converted to the voltage sense type (by speedy) and it runs rock steady with the Aldon. Re: the brass contact caps. CN had some at the show. I picked up two.

I've just gone from an aged Lumenition to an aldon ignitor. With the lumenition set up the tacho was all over the place, with the Aldon it moves around a lot less.
I think the bounce in the needle is due to a knackered damping circuit. Whatever I think it time soon, to send it off to Speedy Cables for conversion and overhaul.

Tacho does jump around quite a bit .......... I don't suppose anyone has stumbled upon a cheap DIY solution?

How have you got the aldon wired, where have you sourced it positve power from ? If you have sourced it positve power from the positive side of the coil then this can generate additional pulses into the tach cause tach instability.

I changed to Aldon...
No problems with Tacho, source the feed from the brake light feed on the pedal box..
Had the car rolling road tuned at Aldon a few months later, and they found a misfire on cylinder 4. Took the dizzy apart and found the magnet had been fouling the pickup and had almost rubbed through. Had to fork out for a new one which fitted for free. All works fine now and the +2 starts first turn most mornings

Rohan, I did indeed take the +ve off the coil as per the Aldon instructions.

Tim the brake switch supply sounds like a good candidate.

I will be talking to aldon next week. I bought a new dizzy with the igniter fitted and the flamethrower coil, they knew what car it was for as I had discussed it and asked for their advice. I am not sure if the coil is causing a problem at the moment as I have got such a lot of other problems but if, as it seems, they have sold me the wrong coil I am a bit peeved.
I will report back.
Meanwhile I am digging the forking garden instead of being at Hockenheim!

My Aldon ignitor has 4 magnets contained in a plastic moulding that sits on the distributor cam. Was that the part that rubbed trough on yours or was it the part fastened to the plate?
