Hi
The radio is a Radiomobile model, sorry I do not know the model number I bought it on ebay from seller = jeff_psycho. Despite the name he is a really nice helpful guy, he always has them for sale so send him a PM.
There are a couple on Ebay Item number: 280313246329 and Item number: 110357333926 which look the same as mine.
Cheers
Jason

Thanks, the objects on ebay look great. Do you know if there is an FM/AM model?
Where did you find the chrome frame/cage around the radio?
Hi
I made the front plate (drawing attached) from a peice of alluminium sheet from B+Q about ?5.
There are period radios that have FM but you have to be careful about the limited depth hole that you have. Or; as already has been suggested the Vintage Wireless Company can convert almost any radio to FM and give you an IPod jack but this is not cheap.
Hope this helps

Hi - New to Elans with a 69 S4. I would like to know if the S4 would accept a standard size radio depth-wise? I saw the post with a Becker Europa & was hoping that one of those would work. I'm a little confused with the differences between the S4 & the +2.
Thanks
Jack
Thanks

Welcome aboard Jack.
Can't help you directly with the precise depth for the S4 Elan, but can assure you it is not as restricted as the Plus 2, IIRC about 5 1/4". The Plus 2 heater box can be modified to provide a bit more mounting depth, but still may not fit a modern head unit. The heater boxes are completely different between the two models. The Elan uses a coolant valve to regulate the heater flow, where the Plus 2 only uses flaps in the heater box to isolate the heater core.
I found out when looking at head units is that the DIN standard does not actually include a mounting depth specification, and there is a wide variance between models. After modding my Plus 2 heater box I thought I was good to go based on the depth specs, but they did not include allowance for the RCA connectors and wiring loom, so my new unit would not fit.
Assuming the radio cutout dimensions are the same for the Plus 2 and Elan. I think I found my cutout to be ever so slightly larger than a standard DIN, but could be made to fit a DIN sleave reasonably well.

Here's what I'll be using, Radiomobile 80, mono LW/MW entry level. Switchable + or - earth. Plenty on eBay and not commanding the silly Philips turnolock prices. Fits the aperture (modern size, courtesy of PO) quite well. And can it seems be adapted for mp3, plenty of instructions on the web. But I suspect if I want anything more decent sounding it'll be a modern unit which I'll hide in the glovebox. But I reckon the sound of the twin cam and helen screaming "slow down, you can't possibly get around that corner at this speed!" will be enough! One day.....
