Thanks Keith, I see it now.....it was a dumb question
I wonder though if those who have cooling issues with the OE electric fan may have the blades the wrong way round.

Based on Keith's explanation above I think my blades may be on back-to-front. I took it apart to refurbish the motor and thought I'd put it back as it came off but maybe not.........can anyone confirm ?

I don't think you can have the blades the wrong way round, with the fan either way on the shaft the pitch of the blades will be the same. The fan rotational direction is the critical parameter and as shown if that is the radiator at the top of the picture it will push air into it.

That would be true only if the blades were symmetrical. If you look at Roger's photo, they aren't, and his are indeed bass-ackward.

Just to wrap this up......my fan was definitely fitted the wrong way round. On closer inspection the hub is actually marked to show direction of rotation and which side sucks ( ) and which blows.
Thanks all for the advice.

A final word on the correct orientation of the OE electric fan blade........see my post above.
I just came across photos I took before I took the blade off to refurb the motor and it seems it was always fitted the wrong way round. I must have just refitted it the same way as it came off not realising it was wrong.
It could be that others were fitted incorrectly at the factory as well so if you are having cooling issues it would be worthwhile checking yours.
