Alternative boot catch

PostPost by: alaric » Tue Sep 06, 2011 2:04 am

Hi all. One of the little jobs left to do on my car is to get the boot catch working. It's a cable operated affair that really looks like it should never work - the one on my car is quite worn so I doubt I'll ever get it working reliably. I wondered if anyone had found an alternative. The plunger on the boot lid is quite similar to those on the bonnet although a different size, so something like the release mechanism for the bonnet would be better.

Hi Sean,
they changed the design between the +2S and the 130S, probably due to problems with the earlier mechanism, what date is your car?

The S1 Elise uses a similar cable operated sliding plate and plunger/spring mechanism for both the boot and the bonnet catches. Some of these parts may be adaptable if they're available. It may be worth giving someone like Paul Matty's, Sue Miller's or Chris Neil's a call to see if they might have the original +2 parts.

This is the Elise boot release mechanism...

Hi. Thanks for the replies. With the elise set up I may be able to mod the cross bar along the back of the boot, and exchange the plunger.
