Ballast resistor

I'm returning my +2 to a ballast resistor coil system& the resistor is the long external ceramic type, whereas the original one was a round disc bolted straight onto the coil.When I bolt the steel mounting bracket for the ballast resistor onto the bodywork do I need to insulate to the fibreglass as the resistor gets pretty hot?

Hi There

I wouldn't have thought it necessary provided the resistance wire is clear of the fiberglass. I'll admit I havn't used one myself on the Plus 2 but I have unsed one on a steel bodied car and it's never been hot enough the mark the paintwork in any way. My biggest concern with the later Plus 2 would be mounting it near the coil under the air box. Any fuel dripping on it from the carbs might be more of a problem.

Hi Andy,
I think I will lengthen the wires to get it away from the carbs.I've found that my +2 starts better with the ballast resistor system.
