Cleaning rocker switches

I seem to recall seeing a post on this but I've not managed to locate the thread. Anyway, anyone got any bright ideas how to remove the 'scum' off my rockers switches, ideally in situ?

Sue Miller's catalogue suggests wiping with silicone brake fluid - haven't tried it yet but my rocker switches look in a similar state to yours so I will try this method in due course.

Baby wipes, they clean everything. The wife says I use more wipes on the +2 than I do on the baby, proberbly right

...or use "Armor All fluid" - its silicone oil / water emulsion (cockpit pump spray)
I used it on the center console - looks nice.

Thanks all. I've always understood brake fluid to be nasty stuff best avoided, so I don't like the idea of getting it anywhere near the dash. Given that I think I'll try baby wipes first. Besides, we've got bucket loads of those around the house!

A car valeter gave me a sample of product which I think was called 'plastic dressing' and was manufactured by Wurth - designed to cover scratches in plastic dashboards. Looks a bit like vaseline.

It brought my switches up a treat. Will try and find out the proper name.

Maguires sells several products for restoring plastic on cars. They are intended for clear plastic lenses but there is no reason why they should not work on opaque black. They work great on my modern cars lenses. They range from scratch removers, to polishers to cleaners. You may only need the cleaner; I think it is #17.

Silcone based brake fluid works well, dampen a soft cloth , lightly rub the plastic, Cleaned mine this way a few weeks ago and they still look much improved.
