Speedo

I have just bought a 1972 +2 s130 and the speedo over-reads about 85 at 4000 rpm which should be about 70, It has had a diff overhaul at some time when the crown wheel was replaced, I understand there are two ratios 3.77 and 3.5 how can I check which was fitted without taking the thing apart as this determines what gearwheel should be fitted in the gearbox. does anyone know if these wheels are available as it might be easier to change this and see if it cures the problem.

You might want to check the tire diameter as well. Low profile tires will do the same thing.

If you're in the UK (and I'm guessing that the Chiltern5 name gives a clue) these people <a href='http://www.speedycables.com/' target='_blank'><clicky></a> offer a recalibration service for Smiths speedos. There's details on the site of what they need to know to do it.

Regards,

Niall.

Just to add to Niall's post.

I have just had my Elan guages refurbished by Speedy Cables and would recommend them.

They did a very nice job.
