I cant remember for sure but I believe the later elans and plus 2 including the 5 speeds used a 8.5 inch plate to go with the different pressure plate assembly and throw out bearing they use. I believe this plate is the same as an MGB. Earlier cars used a 8 inch clutch plate however the 8.5 inch plate has the same spline and fits in the earlier pressure plate assembly iwtout modification.

Rohan,
I've both an MGB clutch plate and Elan +2 one in front of me. Identical except for the splines for the first motion input shaft.....
Are there different types MGB plates?
Cheers,
Brian

I dont know if there are different MGB plates or not. My local Brake and Clutch supplier who rebuilds these things said it was the same as an MGB but he might have overlooked the different spline, or perhaps he just changed out the centre to match the spline Lotus use.

It's been a long time since I've done anything with either an MGA or an MGB. There are at least two different splines in B-series gearboxes, but this may be early MGA/later. I seem to recall that the early B box with non-synchro 1st had coarse splines, while the all-synchro box had more modern looking fine splines.
