Propshaft UJ replacement dimensions

PostPost by: MartinH » Wed Mar 15, 2023 10:00 am

I have replaced the gearbox in my ElanS3. When i came to refitting the propshaft I noticed a notchy feeling in one plane of the gearbox end UJ. So went to order one online. I live in France and have been quoted £29.00 carriage for a £12.00 UJ to have one sent from the UK. I am sure I will be able to find one in France for half the price but what to measure to make sure I get the right one?

Diameter of the joint cap ?
Overall lenth from end of one cap to the other opposite ?

Would the above be enough.

I have found online the Spicer part number 5-101X as being the correct UJ for my car. Can anyone confirm this or point me in the right direction.

Thanks in anticipation

Same as Triumph Spitfire so you can buy from "Betaset" Houdan 78, or Motordream or Moss Europe

Hi Martin,
I suggest you change both.
I'm sure before you take them apart you will mark them with paint to be sure you keep the same orientation for the balance.
The Spitfire UJs have a grease nipple. If you have a very very small grease gun.
I've never found a company here in Brittany who can balance the Prop for an Elan.
Bon chance

Thanks Alan

Now ordered from Betaset.

BTW where do you buy your consumables from? Things like electrical tape, oils, nuts/bolts, tools etc?
