Distance from block to gear lever

Hi All;
I'm about to order up a nice new T-5 box and I need to know the distance from the block (i.e. front face of the bell housing) to the gear lever stub on a standard Elan. The people at Modern Driveline (T-5 suppliers) have lots of options for gear lever location, I just need to know how far forward I need it.

If anyone has a box with bell housing lying around and wouldn't mind measuring it, I would be grateful. Thanks.

Not sure if this helps but it comes from a pdf I have and all though not listed for an Elan it is listed for a Cortina which I think should be the same, the pdf gives various Ford gearbox dimensions and information.

Jonny, I measure 17 1/2" from the face of the bellhousing to the center of the gear stick hole. I have an
assembled unit on the floor and I ran the tape measure from the top of the bellhousing to the gearstick
hole.

I agree with giz30075. I measure 445mm or 17.5” to the centre of the threaded spindle. Of course the actual gear lever is offset by the rubber bush arrangement.

Hi Guys,

Thanks much for this.

The RWD Motorsport adapter bellhousing is 7" deep so if the boys at Modern Driveline can put the shift lever stub 10 1/2" behind the front face of the gearbox it will be in the exact same position as the standard Elan's.

Jonny, I have the T5 with the MDL tailshaft, shifter and the RWD bellhousing. I chose to go foward
with the stick location by welding a plate on my stick (homemade) and mounting it to the trans shifter. At the time,
I wasn't sure where exactly the shifter location would end up. This location is perfect.

As an aside, notice how close the shifter 'box' sits to the frame flange. It's as high as it will go and the
engine is still slanted downward at the rear but I have no driveline issues.
