Just recieved parts for gearbox from TTR very good.
But i have a question for you gearbox experts. The 2 bearing races have shields.
One have rubber seals like a greased for life bearing.
The other has metal dust shields.
Should i removed the seals on both bearings so they are in contact with the Oil in the gearbox.
Many thanks i'm a gearbox Virgin.
Alan

Well top service from TTR , i sent email with the question. Got a nice reply from Tom at TTR in 20 minutes. Some customers remove the Seals to improve Oil contact.
Thanks TTR top service

My observations on bearings, Ford modified the rear bearing oil feed arrangement on last of the gearboxes, MK1 Escort, which suggest pervious was insufficient therefore I would remove both shields on rear bearing.
Front input shaft bearing oiling changed over the years as well, the cover now has an oil drain channel added that allowed oil passing the bearing to return to the main case, I would on this bearing keep the shield on the side of the circlip groove but remove the other one.

Cheers Craven,
That makes sense to me. I'll do that.
Thanks

Finally i have changed bearing races.
On input i left the dust shield next to circlip.
On output main shaft i left the dust shield on tailshaft side and removed only on box side.
