+2 limited slip diff

Hi all, mate of mine has asked me to get and fit a slipper diff to his hillclimb +2. On ringing Burton motorsport guys, they reckon their 22 spline Escort Mk1 unit won't fit the Elan? I always thought the unit in the +2 and other Elans were the old Escort units? Anyone fitted one of these? The standard diff sat on my bench looks identical to the Escort units we used years ago in our rally cars, once out of the Lotus case. Don't want to get the wrong slipper and find it won't fit. As you suspect the diff is the Ford English item used in escorts/cortina/anglia etc etc . Suggest you try talking to somebody else at Burton as their website list the following applications...

Take that as an early warning regarding companies that don't know the products (and their applications) they are selling!

The differential centre in an Elan is the same as all other English axles.

Cheers guys, thought I was right. We had ours out last year for new bearings and it looked standard enough to me. I might give them another ring, or just order the plated diff listed I think is correct. Great shame that staff don't know what they are selling and just look at a computer screen for information. Don't know if they do the gaskets and spacer, but they are available elsewhere anyway. Don't need bearings as we own a bearing shop. Thanks again for confirming we were correct. Cheers, Rob :D

As he is looking for a plated diff unit they don't list one for the Elan, only the ATB type which he doesn't want. Burton are still pleading ignorant as to if it will fit or not. Looks like being an LSD3J1 or a LSD3J3 which is an updated model. They seem to have an option on the 3J1 of a lower ramp angle and preload as a special order, which may suit him better. The more expensive unit is adjustable for both by the user. Diff needs to come out anyway as it's making more noise than a barn full of hungry kids. We'll see. :)
