So a follow up to this thread.

First I have to say a MASSIVE thank you to Rohan with supplying me accurate dimensions, complete with a superb drawing of a standard 5 speed thrust bearing carrier.

I calculated That the new clutch and pressure plate (made by helix and supplied by most of the usual suspects) resulted in the thrust bearing having to travel an extra12mm. Unfortunately to adjust this out meant the slave cylinder pushrod was at maximum.

To overcome this I had a new carrier made up and this will get fitted to the car in the next few weeks. I attached a picture below of the modified carrier complete with all required dimensions to get one made, as if you can’t buy a standard part you will need this or a load of washers. Again, all credit to Rohan for the drawing, not the top measurement is 38 mm. Also in the picture is a standard 4 speed carrier for comparison.

I’ll post again after installation.

Thanks
Mark

Ok, so another update….

So took the engine out, took the bell housing off the gearbox in the car and fitted to a spare 5 speed box. Found an old clutch slave cylinder and pushrod and assembled the whole lot on the floor with the extended carrier.

You can see from the pictures that the pushrod adjustment is spot on, and I’m very happy with this. Also took some ball parka measurements of the helix pressure plate and clutch fingers in relation to the flywheel. I would be interested if anyone has a Borg and beck 5 speed bolted up and can measures the same distances just for a comparison.

Flywheel to face of pressure plate = 42 mm approx
Flywheel to friction plate fingers = 37 mm approx

Cheers
Mark

I pinged that guy earlier asking him to measure the bore and O/D, not had a reply yet. As an aside Kelveden make thier own 5 speed carriers, so will ring and ask them to make me a special. Around 12mm thicker I think to be on the safe side.

Is the Lotus 5 speed nose on the gearbox where the thrust bearing carrier sits a different O/D to the 4 speed?[/quote]

Yep, so need the dimensions to see if it can be machined.

Hi, A bit late to this discussion, but as I posted the picture here :- viewtopic.php?f=37&t=29935 , of the two Ford bearing carriers I can confirm the requested dimensions as (bore) 30.6mm and (o/d) 38.3mm
