Later outer stub axle

PostPost by: gjz30075 » Sun May 02, 2021 4:53 pm

I'm looking to purchase an issue 18 type of outer stub axle, the one with the larger inner bearing, and
the axle looks a bit suspicious. It has two radial welds, as seen in the pics, at the base of the axle.

My Sprint's axles are not this way and presumably one piece. I was told this is the later style, ie,
2 pieces welded together.
Are these, in fact, later style axles? They are from a +2 5 speed car.

Not an original axle or three arm flange but a 2 piece one that someone has fabricated. Many years ago I tried something similar to fit a high strength axle shaft to an original three arm flange I found it impossible to get enough strength into the welds and they cracked :( so I gave up and went to the expensive high strength one piece ones that various people now sell.

cheers
