Group buy on CVs from John

PostPost by: tdskip » Tue Sep 10, 2019 5:36 pm

This was raised (by me) on a technical thread, posting here to see if there is interest.

I believe at least two of us are interested, should be easy shipping in USA but I?d imagine they could be sent anywhere.

Technical thread is here;

If this is the wrong place to post this I apologize, still pretty new here and not sure how you all like this sort of thing to be raised.

So it looks like there are three of us now.

Anyone else interested?

Thanks!

As some of you know, I have selling my kits through Dave Bean, RD Enterprises and JAE for many years. I know I offered a group buy on this thread. Regretfully, I am going to have to back out of that offer and refer any sales to one of my vendors. I do very little retail business. If I start undercutting my vendors prices, it will discourage them from selling my kits. Undercutting my vendors prices is just bad business practice.

Some technical details on my kits.

My kits include the inboard stub axle which is approximately 70% stronger (tensile strength) than the stock part. They are available separately at about 50% of the upgraded stock part.
Including the stub axle also allows me to lengthen the halfshaft for more available droop.

They DO NOT require any limit straps and should not be used.

All new Lobro CV joints and boots

Chromoly halfshaft.

Bolts that connect to outboard stub axle and brake rotor are special manufacture(similar to NAS spec) which provide full shank diameter through rotor and stub axle --NO threads in shear.

Further technical questions can be asked here or directed to my email: [email protected]" target="_blank

On a further note:
The diff stub axle is a known weak part on the Elan and the current replacements are about $500ea.
I do not know of a failure on a street car of my CV inboard stub axles. The Vintage racers or slick shod autocrossers will occasionally break one.

You may still be able to negotiate a bulk buy; with one of John's retailers.

This is just to update & confirm my previous post that I am very interested, and would participate in, any discounted ?group buy? of the CV conversion kit by ?lotusjohn? via any retailer.

I consider having the new inboard stub axle a necessity since I have an S2, which likely has the early small diameter shafts. The added info that nothing is needed to modify or limit suspension travel makes this conversion even more interesting.

Good morning Jay, let me get a note out to some of the suppliers and try to get something going here.

Thank you advance for a bit of patience on timing, I?m pretty slammed at this point.

So I talked to Dave Bean, nice people but the discount offered was rather modest ($50) so I don?t know how much sense that makes. Very friendly and helpful people there to reiterate, not trying to stick a finger in anyone?s eye.

Will try other vendors and let you all know.

No problem with timing here, I don?t expect the car to be ready until next spring at the soonest.

Problem with the shops is that they [meaning any/all of the retailers, not just DB] may be thinking that anyone who opts into this qty buy may be someone who will buy sometime soon in any case, and there is no real incentive for a store to voluntarily give away any of their profit.

This would not normally be considered a spontaneous or optional spur-of-the-moment type purchase. It is likely someone is going to do a CV conversion or not [want to start a verbal war on this site, start a debate on donuts vs CVs]. It is also likely that a significant quantity/group purchase may be considered 10-ish or more [this quantity will likely vary proportional to the price, ie. an inexpensive item will draw a higher qty vs a relatively expensive item like this]. I suspect that 2 or 3 possible buyers do not really grab anyone?s attention, maybe 6 or 7 would. If any of the stores thought that they were competing w/each other for a significant chunk of business, then maybe there would be some incentive.
