Clutch slave cylinder

Help, I recently rebuilt my engine, and replaced the bell housing, now I find the hydraulic elbow coming out of the slave cylinder is touching the exhaust manifold, has anybody had such an issue and how did you solve? Is there a shorter elbow one can get to fit into the slave cylinder?

Have you got an issue with your engine mounts? Or has something else changed.


Shouldn't be a problem with getting an elbow and fittings from somewhere like Burton Power.

Thanks for the suggestion I will have a look at the engine mounts to see if maybe that is the case.

What pipe and fittings do you have ?
I changed to a one piece braided stainless hose and had a similar issue - it was too close to the exhaust although not actually touching. I improved the clearance by shortening the fitting into the slave cylinder and using a copper washer to seal instead of the taper seat.

You could change to a banjo connection, though I agree it shouldn't be close now than before unless something else changed.

Thanks for the thoughts, I will take a picture to show but I think the idea of shortening the fitting into the slave cylinder is probably the way forward. I think I might also be able to move the slave cylinder back a bit as it is a bit slack in the bell housing section.

I will of course let you know the outcome but thanks again for the ideas, much appreciated.

By far the best and easy fix, parts are available so you can just change to banjo no need for new pipe and can be done in situ if needed.

Quick question about the banjo fitting - is it supposed to seal against the body of the cylinder with a copper washer and if so, don't you need to ensure the cylinder body is flat (no dings or scratches)?

Yes, but no problem with sealing of the copper washer, you could swop over to the bleed nipple hole as this has a machined surface.
With a slight modification to the sandwich plate the cylinder can be rotated to put the bleed nipple to the highest point of the cylinder.
