Clonk on diff

Hello
Actually on my G4 but I am sure they are all the same.

With the wheels jacked up, if I turn the prop there is slight movement (I thought this was normal) anyway on driving there is a noticeable clonk. You are sitting within 3 inches of the diff.
I replaced the oil seal by marking the nut and crush washer. Could the problem be this or is it just a worn out diff?

Hi Terry,

You know I?m a mechanical numpty (or perhaps just a numpty generally) but is this clunk just when you apply the power? If so isn?t it more likely than not that it?s something moving either the diff mounting itself, the prop moving on the abutment to the diff or indeed something moving on a drive shaft? Guess the only way to pin it down is to safely get the rear in the air and be under it when it makes the noise??

It?s a live axle type, with an A frame and side ties, everything is poly bushed, but yes I will have to try and make it do it again. Weirdly i took it round the block and it only did it once?

Maybe i asked you before but could you tell me what paint system did you use.
Did you strip back to gel coat by soda blasting. Then poly spray filler and after paint. water based or 2K + lacquer.

My TVR 3000M is at the spray shop at the moment. They have used "Aerogommage" (soda blasting) to strip all the paint off the Bonnet. It makes for a nice clean start. It will be painted the original colour "Peugeot Brun Onyx Metallic 1359".

Hello Alan, hope you are well
He sanded all the old paint off and then coated everything with epoxy primer, then used epoxy filler, then normal primer and base coat and laquer.
To be fair he only had to get the paint off the central scuttle , sides and doors, the front and rear were new.

Thanks for the speedy reply Terry,
the paint shop plan to use "Polyester Pistolable" (poly spray filler) then normal paint system as Miles Wilkins in "How to Restore Paintwork".
Your car looks great.
There's someone on this forum who does Diffs, maybe he has some ideas. "promotor"
