Gear lever differences

PostPost by: martinbrowning » Sat Feb 11, 2017 3:44 pm

Probably a silly question but........only noticed today that the gear levers for my Sprint and Plus 2 S130 (both 4 speed) are different. The Sprint lever has a bush in a collar which fits directly over the threaded spigot of the ball assembly whereas the Plus 2 , although having the bush and collar, fits over the spigot using a short forward facing "arm" and roll pin.
The Service Parts manuals for both cars show this difference as correct so I'm content that I'm not looking at a PO "improvement" - just wondered why the difference given that the same 4 speed box is fitted to both cars.

I think it is because the dash location versus the gearbox is slightly different requiring the different gear lever connection detail

Thanks Rohan - just knew that there was a logical reason. Lotus would not have made two variants unless they really needed to.

Cheers
