New clutch plate thickness

Hi,

Can anyone provide a measurement for how thick a new 5 speed 8.5" clutch plate is?

I assessing the state of the clutch on my car which appears to be virtually new and was operating very well before engine removal. There is no wear to the pressure plate fingers and has a clutch plate thickness of 7.75mm. I looked through the manual, Brian Buckland book and searched the site but failed to find any info.

I know the wisdom is to replace the clutch setup when the engine is removed but searching here suggest that for the 5 speed setup a new clutch will require machining of the rear of the plate and the housing which I am not setup to do. So if everything is a good as I think it is, it seems to make more sense to put back the known good setup.

Thanks,

Mark

Any one any thoughts on this?

Happy to hear info on 8" 4 speed clutch as expect there won't be much thickness difference...

Thanks,

Mark

I have a new unused Borg & Beck 5 speed friction plate part no HB2615 which measures 0.305" or 7.84mm thick.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Gary that's extremely helpful. So looks like my clutch is very close to new so should be fine to re fit.

Cheers,

Mark

If you know the manufacturer, you could ask them. AP Racing list the thickness of their driven plates on their web site.
