I have decide to fit a 3.54 or 3.55 diff to my Elan after reading the favourable reports on the forum--Does anybody have one they would like to sell?
Any special instructions on fitting one? The engine will be 1720cc.

New crown wheel and pinion sets in nine ratios ranging from 3.55:1 to 5.29:1are being made by Quaife/Tran-X and are available from the usual suspects.

Thanks Russ, I was wondering if anybody has one they don't need that is just holding down a shelf...

David, when I was looking, the only complete diffs I ever found were on the other side of the pond and seller would not ship to the Great White North. Just a heads up.

I was able to get a 3:55 C&P and other required stuff from GB on eBay.co.uk. Use the search term 'English Axle' if you want to check out current supply. Even better if the stuff can be obtained from our NA suppliers now.

No real extra fitting issues. More assessing what else you may want to do at the same time. Add the diff brace if not already installed. New mounting bushings as required. Good time to install CV's if you want. Check output shafts for twisting and replace as required. Addition of access through the fibreglass for changing oil. Make sure parking brake tree is working correctly while you have better access. Bearings, suspension, and brakes all OK.

I removed my diff, took it to a local specialist for the re-build, and then re-installed it. Not a cinch of a job, but can be readily done by the shade tree mechanic with normal tools. I think the actual re-build was about $700 plus the parts (which I sourced separately). No leaks, no whine, happy camper.

Many thanks Stu.
I should have said crown wheel and pinion instead of diff shouldn't I? That is all I want since I will overhaul the diff anyway.

As I should have said earlier I was just wondering if someone has a pair of gears sitting on a shelf that they don't think they will be using and want to convert to cash...
