I put some propshaft photos in a topic long ago, but Alas I should have put a ruler in the picture.

Perfect! What's the width of a brick? Might be different in UK vs US. :)

Hi Dave,

Those bricks are 6.2 cm wide. Excluding the mortar between bricks and 21.3 cm long.

2.56 cm per inch. gives 2.34 inches by 8.32 inches long

Dave,

I have a prop shaft out of my 1968 S4. If mnauduit has not answered your questions I could take some measurements for you.

Are those metric, english, or whitworth bricks? :) Also, I believe in this orientation it's the brick height/depth that is in question.

I can offer that standard gauge railroad tracks have the same spacing on both sides of the pond, at a nice 4 feet 8 1/2 inches, or 1435 millimeters. Perhaps we should measure up a driveshaft or two in those.

Or, at MIT they favor Smoots...

Sorry 'bout that, it's Friday...
