Bought the stuff from TTR and all fitted yesterday- not a job I want to do again, home from work today, it has been sunny all day, I am taking the car out for a run tonight and guess what, huge black clouds are gathering over head- sod it I am going out

Went out nice 90 miles then throttle cable decided to start fraying . Came home minimum 4000 rpm

Anyway new cable fitted all ok, until three days later- I have been using the little car- then will not start, sounds like the starter solinold ,ordered a new one let's see what fails next !.

If I was going on a three week driving holiday I think I would need a trailer for the spares I would need to bring

If the little car doesn't start playing ball it will be getting replaced by an MGB and I will make it sit and watch as me and the MG go of into the distance, surely the greatest insult to an Elan- it has been warned!!!

Reckon you should give it a Basil Fawlty style thrashing with a tree branch - it wouldn't dare let you down again!

Are the updated output shafts fitted to the +2 and at what year

The up-rated shafts were fitted to both the Elan and Plus 2. The change over date is not precise and as far as i am aware probably occurred over an extended period of time in 1970 / 71. To my knowledge 72 and 73 cars have them and 68 /69 cars dont have them thus I believe it happened around 70 / 71 around the time of the Sprint and PLus 2 130 introduction

Just leaving for a 150 mile drive around the scottish Borders- wish me luck on a trouble free run the last problem was resolved with a new starter motor.

Great runout today - trouble free - around some great B roads - I'm feeling forgiveness in my heart
