Propshaft Removal +2

I have read on this forum that it is possible for the propshaft on an Elan to be removed by just undoing the 4 bolts to the diff flange, undoing the gearbox mount, jacking up the gearbox to the top of the chassis, and then taking out the propshaft underneath the gearbox.
Can anyone tell me if this has been done on a +2? I don't see how the propshaft can see moved back without pivoting the diff out of the way. Am I missing something?
I have a modified chassis from the 80's with strengthening fillets in the front turrets, and I was wondering if the holes in each end of the chassis box section were a different size to normal. Can someone tell me the size of these holes on a standard +2 chassis?
