Gearbox and bellhousing pain

Hi, I'm new round here and have a 74 +3 part restored that I am starting to get into.
Anyway, I was splitting the gearbox and bellhousing yesterday and it didn't go according to plan.
1 The bolt which is also the pivot for the clutch release lever sheared off - so sheared off bolt to get out of the gearbox - any thoughts?
2 I need to locate a replacement bolt/pivot part - any ideas?
3 As I discovered when the bolt sheared it had all been gummed together with metal filler. The result was that the bush (if that's the right term) on the bellhousing now has a crack through it. Is that mendable? I'll try and upload a pic.
So one bolt causing so much trouble!
Thanks in advance for help.
Graham

Hi there Graham
I'm new to Elans too and it sounds that you are having the sort of promlems that I get when I start to do work. I sheared a bolt on my first old car I bought and ended up rebuilding the whole engine as a result.
To remove your sheared bolt take a look on youtube there will be videos of all sorts of ways to do the job and one of them will suit your needs I'm sure.
As for a replacement part I can't recommend a supplier as I'm glad to say I have not had cause to buy anything yet. But I'm sure other more experienced owners here can help?
Good luck with your project
Regards
Anthony

Hi Anthony
Re your broken component. A couple of options, I had to have a custom one made years ago when I converted to a Type 9 box. Cost around ?15 from a local precision engineer at that time.
Alternatively you might locate one amongst the various Ford owner clubs as I'm pretty sure it's a std Ford item. Others might well correct me on this point but I think some were just a push fit into the bellhousing whilst others were threaded.
Or another idea would be to contact somebody who "collects" old elan parts ie bellhousings and ask him/her to remove one for you- there must be plenty around still.
Regards
John

If you can't find a pivot pin secondhand, or get a new one from the usual suspects such as SJS (?23.50 + VAT + P&P), Mick Miller, etc, then try the Anglia racing boys at 105Speed.com.
The part was common across a whole range of early Fords and I recall mention of a plastic replacement part, although I've never actually seen one.
