Cost of removing and rebuilding an s3 gearbox

Has anyone any recent knowledge of the costs involved of removing and re-conditioning a gearbox from an s3 elan? It jumps out of reverse. Also fitting a new starter ring gear and possibly a clutch whilst the engine was out. When asked I suggested they put it onto their mortgage.

Jumping out of reverse can be caused by an incorrectly adjusted reverse light switch. If the switch is screwed in too far it can prevent full engagement of the gear and consequent jump-out when torque is applied. This can be rectified without removing the gearbox.

No idea on removal and overhaul costs I'm afraid

I removed the gearbox myself, so don't know how much that would be, but the overhaul without any major damage (just new seals, bearings, etc.) was ?110 plus VAT at a gearbox specialist (as in I went directly to them instead of through a Lotus specialist).
