The bands when new are not always in perfect line. Then the bolts slide into the holes using your fingers and no swearing or hammering. After many years working on Lotuses, i find it's the best way

Are Jub Clips hose clamps?

My May 72 Sprint did not have the fail-safe pins when I got it ten years ago; don't suppose this proves anything but why would someone change the intermediate shafts?

Yes. (I had to ask that question, too  )

What about Rojan's Oz product for CV's

Bill,
Do you mean these from Col at "elantrikbits" (on this forum as "ceejay"). I have had a set on my S4 for two years with no problems.

yes, "jub" clips are jubilee clips (i'm just a lazy typist). Sorry Tim but I am sure my Elan Sprint has never had "failsafe pins" and the intermediate drive shafts do not have the extra length with the holes to accept the "failsafe pins".
But my August 1973 +2S130/4 does have the failsafe pins.

My Sprint was built in November 1972 registered 1973 and certainly has fail-safe couplings fitted. I don't know about fitting CVs as I would need to remove the extra fail-safe pins and tubes. Not impossible but I always like the option to 'revert' to original if I ever need to. From others comments this is probably not a good time to change anyway! If I remember correctly the Sprint couplings are racing Imp couplings. I think Spyder still do the 'compromise' coupling with one doughnut and one CV joint.
The fact that not all Sprints have them fitted is not that suprising after all I don't think any two Elans were ever built the same way...

I am wrong, sorry chaps!

Having done some further delving the fail-safe shafts were fitted to later Sprints. I'm still attempting to identify when that was. Oh and I have attached a page from Brian's book so we have photos - I hope he doesn't mind.

Tim, I suspect you meant to say your Sprint was one of the first Federal imports, since 0319K is the final Federal DHC we know of, made in August 1972. As an aside, we have only very recently discovered the existence of 0319K from evidence at the factory; previously we had thought 0310K to be the final car.

And Tim's pic'has reminded me that you wouldn't just need the intermediate shafts to convert

Both th e pics of shafts are really superb and it can work in vehicles

I tried jubilee clips to compress the rotoflexes, but found them flimsy and liable to twist. I now use heavy-duty hose clamps "Atlantic 123 -128 " which I have cut and brazed to fit exactly :D

That's a good Job Sean and no doubt works a treat. But... (There's always a but! A salesman's most feared word) ..... Using three 'jub' clips lets one adjust the hole lineup every whichway by simply turning the desired screw / worm drive to pull the coupling in the direction required. Just a simple addition to the same idea but... It doesn't half work well..

Copperslip the bolts and holes chaps... No seezi uppi... easy cummi ootie...

Happy days....

Have fun.
