Gary,
The different models allow a variety of ownership options.

The early cars have an historic interest to most people, and tend to get bought by enthusiast owners who have more than one Elan in their garage or have had later cars but want the 'Purity' of the originals. The later cars allow a lower priced entry level into Elan ownership (mostly the type 50's), the less rare later models allow the choice of customisation to suit the owners preference. If they were all the same it would be boring! I try to make my cars less boring than most.....

Bare built up chassis look very nice, I like seeing those, they all look similar with no clothes on, but some have perkier suspension and bigger cam covers

Technically you are right and there are differences to each of the types. However, a good deal is common to all Elans and +2s and furthermore, a good number of how to's, mods, best ways, modern kit and so forth are applicable to all our cars. So for the purposes of the forums I feel the current format is right.

It's only when we start to talk originality that we need to get our facts correct - as much as we can -for each type.
