Lotus Elan - three different and unique sports cars and more

So why do we continue to group the Elan as one?
Type 26, type 36 and type 45
Of which there are multiple models of SE, SS, Sprint some with round arches and others with a squared off arch. I guess if you think that they are all the same you haven't read enough here or in the books that have been written.
I expect the same replies that fly off the fingertips of the members
