Gear lever gaiter

PostPost by: Baggy2 » Fri Oct 28, 2011 6:27 pm

Hi all - a minor problem but it annoys me. Does anybody know how to make the gear lever gaiter on an early four speed +2 stay where its meant to be? After four or five gear changes the gaiter always goes above the collar on the gear lever. I bought a new one - fitted it and it was exactly the same. I dont want to stick it with adhesive that means problems next time I have to take the tunnel top off. Dont know if there is some kind of clip solution???
I guess I should be pleased this is my worst problem on the Elan at present ..... as far as I know!
Photo's attached of gaiter on and off - Any feedback very welcome.
Thanks

push gaiter down as far as possible. Put double sided tape on the gearlever, then put the gaiter in position, thats it fixed

Thanks Alan - I've got some double sided sticky in stock - I'llgive it a try.

For other reasons ( I had made a replacement centre console) I raised the height of the gearstick slightly by removing it and placing suitable washers to raise it up. This only gives a small height gain but it could be enough to stop the gaitor popping out.
