Elan CV joints

I Fitted CV joints along with new discs and rear springs. The springs and discs were from SJ Sportscars and the CVs were from Mrs Miller. This has been said before but The drive is so much nicer. Low speed gear change is improved and just the overall feeling of confidence in the set up is worth the price alone. Just for reference, I reamed out the holes with an expanding reamer.

Sure looks pretty and clean under there....and straight! I've got my frame out right now, and the amount of beating the rear frame channel (under the diff) is all wavy from multiple jackings in the past.

I've got a CV set from TTR waiting to go in when I get that far, so I'm glad to hear about your positive response to the changes.

Question: It looks like your outboard axle is full round rather than the 3-eared style? I hadn't seen that before. And do I get a peek of the original stub axle coming out of the diff? My first experience with my Elan was to replace one of those before I could take my first drive, and that was when it still had rotoflexes. If it's original, I hope you have better success than I did.

Cheers, and thanks for the photo,

Dave

Hi Dave, I think what you can see is the aluminium plate that is part of the CV conversion both inboard and outboard shafts are of the original type. Hopefully my lotus shafts will be ok with my skinny tyres and standard power.

I hope so too, and certainly that helps. Both were the case when the stub axle sheared on my car. The DPO (my dad) might have been overly abusive while trying to work out the stress of another day in the stock market in 1974 (not a great time in the US economy :( )

Happy motoring. (Still looks incredibly clean under there.)

Dave

On the Wheeler Dealers Elan program the replacement CV joints were said to cost 445pounds.
Is that a real price to the public and are there better alternatives out there?

Please don't watch the 'Wheeler Dealers Elan program', or if you do, turn OFF the sound!
