Lotus Elan and Lotus Elan Plus 2 Forums

It looks the same and it will probably fit, but who made it, what's it made out of and how long will it last??!!

I would much prefer to buy these from a reputable Lotus parts dealer which should give some comfort that they are correct in more than just appearance.

I heard recently of a guy who bought a calliper repair kit and master cylinder repair kit for his Jag on eBay. He dropped the rubbers into some brake fluid to wet them up a little, forgot about them for a few hours, and when he came back, they had partially melted.

Buy this unbranded stuff at your own peril!

I tend to agree. It's too important a part to scrimp.

I'd be suspicious too. Rotoflex on a Europa? Don't think so! So if the advertiser doesn't know that, what else doesn't he know?

It may fit but it is the earlier non inter-leafed version, Lotus changed to the stronger inter-leafed later on in production.

I agree with Brian; it may well fit but Lotus changed to the one he shows to eliminate wind-up and as Chapman was known for not spending more than he had to on a production car, there were probably very good reasons. I'm betting the Ebay one is as fitted to Hillman Imps and even the competition Imps, with much less power than your average Lotus, moved to the interleaved donuts.

I contacted him and asked for "provenience" and he responded that they have "IMPERIUM" stamped on them.
Being Portugal I would suggest that their usual destination would be some SEAT models, which also used rotoflexes but power-wise are far away of an Elan.

They look like the standard Hillman Imp ones which you can still buy here for about ?25 each or less (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hillman-Imp-p ... _509wt_811) they should work but probably not for very long. The competition Imp ones are stronger with the extra metal plates buy cost over twice as much...

OK. So where is a good source for the real ones? RD Enterprises wants around $500 for a set. I don't mind paying that if it's a fair price.
