Yes it is the same switch, Alex. Well, in the case of my 4 & 5 speed boxes, the switched are the same.

N.B. The cable contacts on the end of the switch are very near the support bracket so I covered the contacts with a hard rubber/silicone compound just in case the the bracket came too close when assembled.

Good to see the speedo drive pointing in the correct direction. Do you have the longer speedo cable, yet?

  I understand Rohan! It does look like a pig of a thing to get to when its all fitted up. But I recon you could remove the mounting and plate to get at it?

Looking now at the gearstick now to see how it looks / works and deciding if the mod is required. I would like to get it looking just like the 4 speed lever / std fit box is still there. Hmmm!

The only other loose end (I think!) is the exhaust system. I'm going to dry fit the box to the engine and bolt on the manifolds to see if I can suss what's needed...

I will keep you all posted as norm'..

Hi all,

I will soon have my plus 2 back on the road after a very expensive MOT, I also now have my 5 speed box fitted with a gear lever, standard 5speed type, and I now have a prop thanks to Gino.I have down loaded the pdf written by Victor about the swap and was wondering if anyone can pass on info about using the Saab clutch arrangement,ie does i work,is it much better or not worth the hassle ect ect

Many thank

Paul

Now have the longer speedo cable chaps..

That's all for now as I have something else to worry about right now Quite small but I think very expensive..

Let me introduce you to Angus, who was less than 12 hrs old when Mrs B took this pic'... :D :D :D

Busy busy... I will be having a morning on the car soon. Tomorrow am in fact. Andrew is calling for a look at the gearbox and I want his opinion on gear-sticks...

Take care chaps...

Paul,

I did the CSC bit using a slave from Burton. I have the machining capability to make the adaptor that Victor said very little about. Burton sell a number of adaptors - but not for the Lotus 5 speed box.
I thrive on challenges, and that was one I thought worth playing with. The Elan is a toy, after all. I'm sure it's better than the standard lever method, but how much better would be impossible to evaluate.
CSC Fitted.JPG and

The pipe route will be changed to the other side now the box is out.

Have you looked at the routing of the exhaust yet?

Brian, Thanks for the picture,I have only read what others have put on this site and im of the understanding that you can get the exhaust to fit with a little light hammering here and there, where, is something I dont know yet.To be honest,im just a big fan of the car but i have no technical machine skills or major knowledge of how to do things properly. The reason i was considering this option was because it seems to do without a lot of moving parts and modifiing 4speed and 5 speed clutch forks/arm/carriers ect and acts directly on the clutch giving a linear movement(hope that makes sence) for better reliabilty.Id be interested in the parts you used for this so perhaps I could run the same setup. It does seem that no matter how this conversion is done, the flywheel needs to have a different, longer bearing installed to surport a shorter gearbox shaft, was this the case with yours,oh and what clutch parts did you end up using with the CSC system. Was anything else modified by machineing?

Many thanks Brian.

Paul

Congratulations Alex! For a moment there I couldn't work out who was whom - you both look so young! A few sleepless nights coming up then - but I'm sure you'll get the gearbox in eventually :D
