Gearbox swop?

John, Is the 5 speed bellhousing threaded to take the pivot pin? Or is it a push in.. as the Ford?

You don't have a sketch of the pin you made do you do you? As this is possibly part of the mod' that is required to use the st'd 4 speed lever. Sue did say it can be used but needs slight modification. this is possibly it! I thought it was bearing related.

John,Just looked at the pics and I can see what you have done. Sound. It does look like the bellhousing is threaded.

The bolt is screwed into the gearbox,it's one of the six bellhousing mountings..

..am rushing now, have to pick the missus up,just had a root through my spare bits and another photo, "fork" is opened up(filed1/8") to fit the carrier,suppose it is the 4 speed arm as the 5speed pivot can be seen bottom right,bearing carrier bored (rather roughly) to fit input shaft sleeve...

Did you bore the st'd 4 speed bearing carrier to fit the 5 speed 1st motion shaft? I was not sure there is enough metal. But I could be wrong.

Also....

Just had a conversation with Graham Boulton and Susan M....

Some of the 5 speed parts are now scarce.. Driven plates mainly, so don't throw any away. They can be relined. I also discussed the pivot pin. The 5 speed box uses the same pivot pin as the Ford, but, It fits into a special bolt. This is one of the fasteners bell-housing to box & It has a longer head / hex which has a bored hole to accept the pivot pin.

John. The pivot pin you have there looks like the st'd fit item. Question? Is it for sale? Is the bearing holder for sale? Please let me know... Failing that can you measure it up and PDF me a sketch. I can then make one (at zero profit) for anyone needing one.. Same with the bearing holder mate.. I will make some spares for you if you like.

My box is finished and ready to be uplifted from Susan, which I will do approx 2nd week December... :roll:

I think I might be busy over Xmas hol's.... lathe will be red hot methinks... :lol: :lol:

Yes,bored the bearing carrier to fit the 5 speed shaft,plenty of meat but wasn't easy,haven't really made a nice job of it.

Sorry but these are the only spares I have,if I had two you could have one..

Will measure up the pivot and bearing housing for you Metric or Imperial?

John, I assumed permission to publish your sketch and picture :roll:

BTW the standard speedo cable is 54" long, and although I didn't measure it, the 5 speed cable was about 6" longer to enable it to come in from the LH side.

Where are my royalties??....I've taken a closer look at it and can find only one seam,it looks like a tall headed bolt with a FIXED (I couldn't undo it) top-hat (not too hardened)..

With a little effort, the hardened piece rotates in the hexagon - but I couldn't pull it off.

The hexagon has a small chamfer where the threaded piece fits - if it were one piece it would not be possible to machine such a chamfer. I tried, not too hard, to seperate 'them' without success.
