More clutch problems

Hello,

I've posted problems on my clutch before but have not had much luck tracking the problem down. Symptoms have also changed a bit so here I go again:

I have bled (again) and adjusted the clutch so there is about an inch of free play at the pedal. This gives me a biting point at about the centre of the pedals travel.

Problem is, when the weather and the car is hot, if I come to a standstill or slow moving traffic the biting point moves up to the top of the pedal travel and the free play disappears. Then, when I get moving again it returns to where it should be. This maybe points to something happening due to heatsoak? But as to why I have no idea..

Any ideas?

Cheers

Robbie

How well protected is the clutch line from the heat? I imagine if the fluid were boiling, the opposite symptom would happen but maybe the slave piston is sticking due to getting gummy due to the heat. Just thinking out loud here.....

Hi Greg,

The flexible line is on the opposite side to the exhaust (rhd), the only thing near the manifold is the bundy pipe and, of course, the slave itself.

Cheers

Could you possibly get hold of a spare bit of ali,and make a heat shield with that and see if you still get problems.Id go as far as shielding every part you can till your satisfied. Its just an idea or perhaps try a different fluid spec.I have never had this kind of problem and I drove mine in all conditions so not exactly sure what your problem is.

Whoops, sorry, forgot about that.

Have you recently rebuilt master and slave?

I replaced the slave and master a couple of years ago (about 1000 miles).

Paul - I thought about trying a shield, but wondered if anyone could shed light on why it was doing what it does. It seems very odd. Like you, I drove my previous Plus 2 all year round with no problems.

Thanks both,

Robbie
