Speedo glass replacement needed

Hi. I've just retrieved my dashboard from the loft and found that the glass on the speedo has been broken at some point while it was up there. Can anyone advise on the cheapest route to replacement? I'd also like to replace the bevels on all the guages. Can anyone recommend a source?

Thanks.

Sean.

your local glass supplier should be able to cut you a circle that should fit.. from memory it is 2mm.

Hi

If you go to good old ebay there is a firm called Classic Bits who sell glass, bezels rubber seals etc all for smiths instruments, and not too dear!

If you type in Classic Bits in google it will direct you there.

Hi Sean,

I can't lay my hands on my Demon Tweeks catalogue but I know they list historic instruments & the supplier is named.
In the past I have found that a nice friendly e-mail or letter to them usually results in an answer something like
"We don't normally do this but"
However the parts you need do get sent to you for a reasonable price.
Now what is the name of that company; oh how I hate these "senior moments" :D

Cheers
John

Another supplier of bezels and glass.

Actually, the vendors of classic Smiths instruments should be able to source you a glass.

Thanks chaps. That's really appreciated. Luckily no other damage was done and it's the old dashboard not the nice shiney new one - that's always on top of the piles of lotus bits in the loft.

I've two weeks off work to make significant progress on the car. Seems like slow going so far today - I have all three new wiring looms on the floor of the garage, with the dash. So far we've just stared at eachother. Let the battle commence!

All the best.

Sean.

Oh, these links are much appreciated. A few of my bezels will need replacing so this was a very timely thread indeed.

Hi again. I've been in touch with MJC products: http://stores.ebay.com/MJC-Products as suggested by David. The bezels don't seem to be an exact match as the depth is lower than on the +2. I've sent him my measurements in the hope that he can advise - there may be a seal under the guage for the ones he's selling which would account for the difference. Either way the glass is easy to get - he definately has that. The bezels for the speedo and rev counter are about ?12 so I may get one to offer up and see how good they are. I've asked for a set of prices for bezels to match my measurements. Have to wait and see now.

I'm guessing that the existing bezels would be fine if they were re-chromed. Has anyone else had this done? It may be cheaper. Depends on whether MJC can offer a deal for all the parts.

All the best.

Hi again. I've remeasured in the light of day and John's bezels would seem to be a close match - my measurement error was a tad high. He's sending a 4" one in the post to try anyway. He's offered me a complete set of bezels, glass and seals and I'm sorely tempted, especially given the impact on the appearance of the dash.

All the best.

I received John's 4" bezel and it's a perfect match. The only problem is the tabs are not bent over so I need to think of a way to do that without damaging the bezel. So, a new set of bezels all round with glass and seals it is then.

All the best.

Sean.
