I have my diff with a friend who is rebuilding it with a 3.54 cw&p with all new bearings, seals etc.

He is a retired engineer and very experienced but has not built an english diff before. Unfortunately the pages in my workshop manual got damp and have all fused together in the section dealing with the diff build procedure

Can anyone direct me to a weblink or other resource where the procedure for rebuilding the diff is described? The bearing kit comes with basic info on backlash set up etc but the preload bit seems to be the key and we could do with a bit of a steer.

I forgot to mention that the instructions say to use a gasket when assembling the two halves together. I'm not sure of the exact timing, but sometime in the mid 60's Ford stopped using a gasket as it was found to be the root cause of leaks.

Just use a modern good quality RTV compound.
