Hi Guys and Gals,

Is there any neat trick to make changing the Diff Top Mountings on a +2, Lotus chassis?

Mine probably need changing.

Had a quick look from underneath and it looks like all the work will have to be done from above....

But....the damn petrol tank makes access very tight.

That and all the felt padding...

Thanks in advance,
Peter

No alternative, petrol tank out.... You soon get the hang of it! The mounts can fail in a variety of interesting ways. Mine have snapped the metal ears off and shredded the rubber in the past, but I suspect this is more to do with incorrect spacing washers and wrong bolts fitted. No problems for a few years now.

You don't necessarily have to take the tank completely out - I've managed to do them by undoing the tank retaining straps and (carefully to avoid damaging the fuel line!) raising the tank up with a suitable wedge to get enough clearance to get the bushes in. I did, however, have the diff itself out at the time which may have helped...

Did that job last summer and took care of a couple issues. I poped put the rear glass as the seal was bad and then pulled the tank out the window opening. Mounts were then a snap to change and the glass has its new seal with no water leak.
Not the answer you want but life was very easy!!!

Good luck

Thanks Guys!

I guess it's at least tank up..... :(

Sean.....I'm tempted to make my way up to the hillclimb in Clare.

Corkscrew Hill?

At least two friends of mine have written their cars off on that Hillclimb route

Very deceptive sceries or hairpins that seem to alsmost cause the suspension in the car to resonate!!

Again....thank you all for your replies.

Peter :D

Peter,

Corkscrew hill road is now in a poor state. Which pub were your friends returning from ????

Saturday is Ballyryan hill on the R477 Fanore to Lisdoonvarna coast road, from the seashore up to Ballynalackan Castle

Sunday is Ballyalban Hill on the R480 road south from Ballyvaughan to Glenslade.

All happening at Hylands Hotel, Ballyvaughan. :D
