After much research into flywheels, and what can go wrong when they fail (doesn't bear thinking about), I opted for a new flywheel.. There have been a few twincam flywheel failures recently (in competition - Shelsley Walsh for one) and the observation was "it nearly cut the car in half". It may not be a race car, but all it takes is a missed gearchange..

Legs or new flywheel?!

Post mortem on the flywheel -

See pictures, does anyone recognise this handiwork? I weighed the flywheel and ringear and it was 5.5Kg/ 12lb. Notice the cracks and chunks missing at the edges. The metal left was less than 1mm thick in places and the clutch contact area was eight inches in diameter. On the road, the engine now feels smoother and a little less nervous, but the new flywheel is also a lightweight one, but a little heavier than the old one. Does anyone know what the standard weight is?
