Hi,

Can anyone let me know what model Fords came out with a 3.55 diff, I realise that some may have been changed during the past 30 plus years but sourcing one from a known model would be a good start.

I believe most Cortina's had 3.55's in the UK. Early Mark I Escorts may as well. I understand the 3.55 diffs appear frequently on ebay/UK.

I think some Brits might answer better than this Yank.

According to "Tuning four cylinder Fords" the RS2000 and Mk1 Capri 2000 GT had 3.54 diffs. I don't know whether that was the English axle or the German Atlas Axle, though. The Atlas axle is a carrier type (a bit like the Salisbury in an Eclat) not the banjo that fits Elans. I don't know whether the 3.55 English diff that was optional in Lotuses was actually fitted to any Ford. Dont suppose that is much help....

best regards, iain

All RS2000 Escorts were built in Germany. I raced against them with my Vauxhall Firenza (Only Here for the Beer). The Brits will know what I am talking about.

Have a look at my post on diffs under Plus 2/ Elan diffs. Note the safety shaft extension in the middle of the output shaft. This is on a '68 car.

- all RS 2000 Mk 2 had the English axel when leaving factory ,although the car was built in Germany. ( 3,54)
The Escort RS 2000 Mk 1 was either English or German built, but still had the 3,54 "Elan diff."
