That auction site are selling slave cylinders for Cortina GT, Anglia 1200, Classic, etc. for ?32 each.
Q: Will these fit the Elan?
Rumour has it that there are differences in the bore diameter which affects the operation when applied to an Elan - surely not???
The ones suitable for the ?lan are listed at ?54 each.
Is the claimed difference justified??

The bore diameter is important.
The Elan one is 5/8" IIRC. Any bigger and you'll have a lighter clutch, but may not be able to move it far enough to disengage the plates. Any narrower and you probably won't be able to press the pedal! Can you post a link to the cylinder you are considering please?

And he is right. You can see it has a different body, probably won't fit on the Elan gearbox.

(** DON'T BY THIS FOR THE ELAN OR ANY OTHER LOTUS - IT IS NOT THE SAME **)

The master cyl is 5/8" but the Slave Cylinder on the Elan is 7/8" the Anglia and Ford Cortina use a smaller dia slave cylinder and although it will fit if you use the smaller Ford type you will have problems.
Fit the 7/8" Slave and save yourself hassles.

I've found a couple of other places that list a slave clutch to fit the Elan as having a 0.75" bore. The units also fits the Ford Cortina. Is this bad info?

Yes, it is wrong. Below is correct.

Edit: just noticed while Lotus slave bore is correct the inlet connection appears to be in the wrong place for an Elan, maybe correct for a Cortina Twin Cam though.
Ridiculous price anyway!
