plus 2 5 speed gear lever coming out of gearbox

PostPost by: JKN » Mon Aug 08, 2016 6:28 pm

Dear All. Does anyone know if a quick shift gear kit from a Ford 4 speed Rocket box will interchange with the Plus 2 5 speed gear lever. My gear lever has detached from the gear box twice in 500 miles leaving me in a vulnerable position. The nylon threads are now damaged. I have screwed it back in with some dirko sealant. Before I employ an engineering firm to machine an aluminum version of the nylon thread. Could someone tell me if an off the shelf quick shift lever with associated metal thread will work. I understand that the elan 5 speed gear lever is the same a the cortina. Help appreciated please. Many thanks

Something like this, maybe? These pop up on ebay every so often

This particular ebay item is called a Ford Sierra Type 9 quick shift stick.

Yes that is what I would like to fit.

Will it fit do you think?

Many thanks

It will fit but you won't like the shift with it,at least I didn't ...been there, tried that, have the t-shirt.
Also have the quick-shift kit fitted with a locking tab if you feel you must ....

Thanks for the advice. I borrowed one from a friend. The thread screws into the box fine but not far enough for the gear lever to sit into the rose joint properly.

I see there is an old stock cortina gear lever on ebay that looks suitable. I may try that.

Existing nylon threads are in very poor condition.
