Oil Filter Help

The motor is a standard big valve Twincam and I need a bit of help picking an oil filter. There seems to be a great deal of discrepant info on line. In some posts i read that these motors should not have a bypass valve or anti drain back valve and in the same posts they recommend filters that have them. So at the end of the day does any one know what is recommended? or if our motors should have a bypass valve? i run Mobil 1 15-50 oil and would think a bypass valve would be a good thing but i am not sure (and if yes what pressure valve).
I have heard of people using Mobil one M1-205, Mann 712, Man 719/15, Motorcraft FL500, Motorcraft FL-401, Napa 1393, Wix 51342 and a ton more. Thing is in this list there are a ton of different pressures specified for the bypass and one does not even have one at all.
What are peoples thoughts?

It would be hard for me to get the Lotus filters. Any help with what would be correct from a parts store?

I think Bill is correct in that the pump has its own bypass valve.
My filter is a Unipart GFE443.
From what you have said I don't think you are living in the UK. You may find more useful advice if you disclose your location.
If you look at oil-filtercrossreference.com you will find a number of alternative manufacturers, and probably something you can buy nearer your home.

The orginal pumps had two bypass valves.
One that dumped the oil back to the sump when the pump discharge pressure reached 40 psi to limit the overall oil system pressure.
There was a second one that just bypassed the filter if the pressure drop across the filter became excessive. This was to ensure the engine still go oil flow if the filter blocked and to stop the filter element from collapsing if excess pressure drop across it happened . Some of the modern replacement pumps have done away with this second filter bypass valve.
With the filter located where it is down beside the sump an anti drain back valve does not appear to be of much use but it would do no harm either. A bypass valve built into the filter may be of some use if your pump does not have one built into the body. If you take off the filter you can see the light spring and valve arrangement that controls the filter bypass if present. If the valve is not present the passage is normally blocked with a peened in flat disk plug ( that can fall out just leaving a hole and the filter permanently bypassed !)

With that being said. What filters are folks using in the USA ?

I use Napa Gold (Wix) 1342 filter and Valvoline VR1 20-50W racing oil. VR1 has added ZDDP for flat tappet motors. No complaints and readily available.

Napa Gold (Wix) 1342 or Mobil 1 M1-205.
There is no cure for Lotus, only treatment.

VW golf/rabbit mki1/2 been using them for years with no problems.
I only use the genuine VW one which has a anti drain back valve (whether it's needed or not)
And yes it does have the correct threads dispite coming from a metric engine.

I have been using Ford Zetec 1.6 oil filters for many years now. Halfords stock them in the UK, and their part number is HOF265.
