5 speed clutch woes

Hi lost my clutch the other day pedal went straight to the floor.when I took the engine out this is what I found C ring lying in the bellhousing along with the 2 curly springs (mangeled).The steel tube that the release bearing slides along is a loose fit in the housing I can move it in and out about 1/2 inch.Is it supposed to be a press fit in the housing?Can't work out what it is supposed to happen.

It is supposed to be a nice tight fit,you could always try center-punching the aluminium to hold it in place,if all else fails I have plenty of spares...

Many ( many ) years ago when I got my sprint a I had problems with the clutch not releasing properly.
Everything was to the book but it took a larger mastecyl. to make it work.
This worked fine with 100.000 miles on the latest clutch set up. ( from a dutch volvo rally car )
Well , almost forgot ; During the 225.000 miles in all I went through a couple (,or more ? ) slaves .
The proximity to the exhaust made the rubberpiston into an O-ring far too quickly.. ----no clutch.
So when I rebuild the car from the ground up I fabricated a center clutch system.
This has been described many years ago ( in Lotus news , I think ) . An adapterplate was constructed to fit the front cover of the lotus box in one end , receiving the Saab 900 centerbearing at the front.
This works VERY nice . I recommend Victor Hollnagels excellent paper on his 5-gear project..
The projects differ a little but both are working very nice.
You can actually buy a special front cover including bearing set up , for a price..A small number is out there also working fine.
For the std ford box owners are in luck. I think Burton does a kit.
Btw: A proper Locktite-tish adhesive will fix your loose tube,
